It is said that countless Yokai) paraded through the night streets of Kyoto during the Heian period, known as the "Hyakki Yagyō" (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons).
It's back at UZUMASA KYOTO VILLAGE this year!
This year, the "Night Parade of One Hundred Demons" at UZUMASA KYOTO VILLAGE will be even more spectacular!
In addition to the unique and colorful yokai (supernatural Yokai), glamorous dancers will also appear, parading through the venue and adding to the excitement.
Nurarihyon, Amabie, Ohagurobettari, Mikoshi Nyudo, Hyosube, Yakou Douji...
Yokai roam the streets of Edo, scary, fun, and somehow cute.
A special Yokai parade that can only be seen here in the world!

STORY

One day, a film reel of "Uzumasa Hyakki Yakō," a Yokai Jidaigeki (period drama) yokai (supernatural beings) that had been shelved long ago, was discovered in a warehouse at UZUMASA KYOTO VILLAGE.

While the film is being shown in the projection room, Yokai from the movie, unleashed from their seal for the first time in decades, leap out of the screen and embark on a grand parade of demons, revealing themselves to the people.

Tonight, a film that has gained supernatural powers over many years will transform UZUMASA KYOTO VILLAGE into a world of Yokai.

Enjoy watching the parade of demons, and the grand finale is an entertainment show where you can dance with Yokai).
The stage presents a thrilling show that blends music, dance, and sword fighting.
Creators from various fields, including choreography, sword fighting, music, art, and costumes, have come together to deliver a one-of-a-kind live entertainment show that fuses Japanese Yokai culture with the techniques of filmmaking.
Finally, we did Yokai YOKAI Dance together with the yokai!

The choreography is by TERUPOP, who has appeared in various shows including theme park shows and fashion shows, and is currently active as a choreographer/stage director. Come on everyone, let's dance together! It's amazing!

Yokai ☆Dance Live!

A lively dance party featuring yokai (Japanese Yokai is coming to UZUMASA KYOTO VILLAGE! This interactive dance program features energetic Yokai sisters and Yokai, as well as Kachinta, UZUMASA KYOTO VILLAGE 's mascot.
With the theme "Let's all, Yokai and humans, come together and enjoy this moment," everyone can become part of Yokai party with simple, easy-to-follow choreography centered on clapping and arm movements.
The choreography is by TERUPOP, who has appeared in various shows including theme park shows and fashion shows, and currently works as a choreographer/stage director. With simple yet addictive choreography, everyone can transform into Yokai!

This special day trip bus tour takes you to various locations in Kyoto associated with yokai (Japanese Yokai), guided by expert "Mononoke Guides" who will share historical facts and anecdotes about Yokai. After seeing and hearing about Yokai legends that are not well known even to Kyoto residents, and becoming more knowledgeable about Yokai than anyone else, you will be taken to UZUMASA KYOTO VILLAGE 's "Kyoto YOKAI Festival 2026."

This year marks the third year of the "Kyoto YOKAI Festival".
We will introduce the history and highlights of the event over the past two years.

Kyoto YOKAI Festival 2024

Kyoto YOKAI Festival 2025

In the fall of 2024, the largest-scale Yokai (supernatural creature) event in the history UZUMASA KYOTO VILLAGE, "Kyoto YOKAI Festival," will be held for the first time.

From the first day of the event, a wide range of people visited, including families, young people, and foreign tourists. On the holiday around Halloween, October 26th of the same year, the highest number of inbound visitors since the opening of UZUMASA KYOTO VILLAGE in 1975 was recorded. It also marked the highest number of visitors for the autumn season in the past eight years.

The following year, the "Kyoto YOKAI Festival 2025" was held as the "International Yokai Summit," inviting researchers and practitioners from Japan and abroad, including Professor Emeritus Kazuhiko Komatsu, a recipient of the 2025 Order of Culture, to conduct international academic and cultural exchange on the theme of Yokai culture. New projects were developed, such as the public recording of Yokai variety show hosted by general producer Junya Kono, and the event grew in both scale and content, recording a number of visitors that exceeded the previous year's figures.

In 2026, its third year, the event will evolve into a vibrant parade of demons incorporating dance, themed "Let's Dance!! And Be Terrified!" as the first autumn season event since the renewal.

Hyakki Yagyo creator, Yokai cultural researcher, Yokai visual artist.
Representative of the “Yokai Art Group: Hyakuyōbako.”

Fascinated by Yokai since childhood, he conducted practical research on the use of Kyoto’s Yokai legends for tourism while attending an art university in Kyoto.
Yokai Alongside creative activities such as mask-making and graphic art centered on this theme, she has organized numerous “Yokai” events, including “Ichijō Hyakki Yagyō” and “Mononoke Market,”“Randen Yokai Train,” “Fushimi Yokai Sake Festival,” “Mii-dera Yokai Night,” and, in 2025, the “Oeyama Shuten Hyakki Yagyo” at the Osaka-Kansai Expo.
His published works include *The Real World Next to You: Yokai * (Seitosha), and he is a regular cast member on the TV program * Yokai to Asobu* (Enterame-Tele).
In recent years, based in his hometown of Kyoto, he has been organizing regional revitalization events while dedicating his life’s work to promoting Japan’s Yokai culture overseas.

This year, with the renovation of UZUMASA KYOTO VILLAGE, the Hyakki Yakō (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons) will apparently become a Dancing Yokai Parade. Even for me, who has been working on Hyakki Yakō in Kyoto for 20 years, it's a surprising and unpredictable new territory. With the power of the dancers, it may turn out to be a wonderful show. The CEO of "Ashitano Shikaku," a creative studio that aims to make tomorrow more interesting through planning and design, based on the theme "Fun can be created." He also serves as the "chief" of the horror design group: Ashitano Horror®.
Having worked on numerous brand designs, he excels at creating works that fuse various fields, including advertising communications, spatial design, and art, starting from his creative lab "ASITA_ROOM," and his methods are versatile.
He has planned and produced numerous visual identity (VI) designs, including logos and marks for Kansai TV, Kyoto Aquarium, Asahi Broadcasting Corporation, and GREENIA, as well as key visuals for Shinsaibashi PARCO, Mister Donut's "Mochurin," and the Fukuda Museum's "Ito Jakuchu Exhibition." In recent years, he has also been actively involved in content development, including planning and exhibitions such as "Jumotsu Mate ~Charmy and Sayuri~," "Festival of Jumotsu Exhibition," "Mononoke ART CIRCUS," and "Love Typo Exhibition," and creating art pieces such as "Contemporary Mononoke Exhibition" and "Power Word Exhibition" at Daimaru Tokyo, and the spatial design for Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo®, "HEART MEETS SAKURA."

A photographer from Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture.
The artist photographs the seasonal scenery of Kyoto, his hometown, throughout Kyoto Prefecture.
Their main activity is on social media, where they have over 270,000 followers in total.
He began his career as a professional photographer after publishing the photo books "Vividly Colored Kyoto" and "Kyoto Romantic Journey," and continues to capture the moving scenes of Kyoto to this day.
While pursuing landscapes, shrines, temples, and events related to Kyoto, he encountered the Ichijo Hyakki Yagyo (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons) and became fascinated with photographing Yokai). He has also been working with Mr. Kono, the general producer Kyoto YOKAI Festival to create Yokai photographic works based on the theme, "What if Yokai existed in modern Kyoto?"

I was in charge of the stage choreography for "Uzumasa Hyakki Yakō" at this year's Kyoto YOKAI Festival 2026, as well as the direction and choreography for "Yokai ☆Dance Live!".

We created this piece with the aim of expressing the joy of dancing that will make people of all ages want to join in, the unique Japanese worldview of Toei Kyoto UZUMASA KYOTO VILLAGE, and the mysterious charm of yokai (Japanese Yokai through dance. She began playing keyboard instruments at the age of four and became devoted to jazz at the age of fourteen. She studied composition, arrangement, and orchestration under Atsuro Kono, jazz piano under Katsuya Tamura, and classical piano under Yukiko Miyazaki, acquiring the skills necessary for performance, composition, and arrangement from each of them. She is active in a wide range of musical fields, including composition and performance, and in film scores, regardless of genre, she always strives to create music that closely complements the visuals and story. Her work on the soundtrack for the anime "The Promised Neverland," including "Isabella's Song," has been streamed a total of 50 million times on Spotify, demonstrating her talent for creating memorable melodies.

I was in charge of the music for "Uzumasa Hyakki Yakō" (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons). In creating the music, I made sure to capture the unique Japanese atmosphere of UZUMASA KYOTO VILLAGE and the slightly eerie yet somehow exciting worldview of the Hyakki Yakō. I aimed to create entertainment that can be enjoyed by everyone from children to adults by fusing the sounds of traditional Japanese instruments with modern sounds. Yamamoto Dyeing Factory Co., Ltd.
The fourth generation owner of Yamamoto Dyeing Factory Co., Ltd., a dyeing factory specializing in film and stage costumes, founded in 1930 in Mibu, Kyoto. Since its founding, the company has been involved in dyeing costumes for films and stage productions, inheriting years of accumulated knowledge including the techniques of kata-yuzen dyeing and approximately 100,000 stencils. They read the historical context of the work, the characters, and the director's intentions, select patterns from the past, rearrange the colors, composition, and materials to suit the work, and support the creation of costumes that convey the characters and the worldview.

She is in charge of the costumes for the warrior monks, Yokai, and yokai umbrellas in "Uzumasa Hyakki Yakō," as well as Kachinta's costume in "Yokai ☆Dance Live!".
